Game 03 02-13-10

Game Summary     Game 03      02/13/10
The four companions stood at the bank of the river and looked back to Tamran, now little more than a black dot on the horizon.  The decision was made to make for Woodbrook to re-supply.  Kelsey collected herself, and her bodyguard, a stout soldier named Elrick, assisted her in readying for travel.  They journeyed till dusk and made camp.  The next morning, they entered the mid-sized town of Woodbrook.
The first order of business was to find adequate transportation.  They were able to find a stable where the proprietor was able to make a deal with them.  They were very fortunate, as most people don’t work on Sunday, but in the end, it did cost them a few extra gold pieces.  However, they were able to secure a carriage and two strong heavy horses for their journey.
They planned to leave the next morning, so Tamarie took some time to make contact with a local cutpurse by the name a Nyrnon “Stickyfingers”.  He explained that there was an old route through the Darkvale Forest, but that no one had come out alive for years.  Tamarie took control of the conversation away from the rather impetuous and rude little man.  Put in his place, Tamarie left instructions that he was to be her eyes and ears in the town.  He reluctantly agreed.
Tamarie was able to convince the party to head into Darkvale Forest to root out the dangers that faced the people of Woodbrook.  Trying to beat the oncoming storm, the party left the Moonday morning and made their way into the overgrown forest via an old and overgrown pathway.  Travel was slow and they made an early camp.
The next morning they continued down the path.  Halfway through the day, Bron and Kotri noticed a shadow moving through the trees.  They waited, but no attack came.  They continued to move forward.  A few hours later, Malikune, Kotri, and Bron saw three of the shadows in the trees.  They decided to prepare for battle and called upon those that were tracking to show themselves.
A massive orc dropped from the trees and landed deftly in front of Malikune.  This was Chief Uchick and he demanded that the party leave the woods. A standoff appeared imminent.  For a few minutes the two groups spoke, each trying to gauge the strength and combative prowess of the other.  No love was lost, of course, between Kotri and the orcs.   However, Kotri was able to lower her axe when she learned that these orcs left the mountains as outcasts who didn’t share the typical orc’s way of life.   Uchick agreed to let the party pass if they took a test from the gods.  The party agreed and was led to the village.
The orc shaman, Ganash, cast the bones and it was determined that Tamarie would take the test.  She was sent into an obstacle course to retrieve an artifact in the center of the course.  Much to her chagrin, she had barely stepped 60 feet into the course when the shaman set the grass on fire, forcing her to run through the course without checking for traps.  Fortunately, her natural reflexes and agility saved her and she was able to grab the relic having suffered no major injuries.  Now surrounded by rings of fire, Tamarie bravely leapt into the flames.  A few burns and scrapes later, she emerged from the test with the artifact in hand.  Uchick smiled and cut the name “Firewalker” into her chest.  Tamarie was then able to negotiate safe passage to Woodbrook for anyone who bears the mark of the Firewalker.
The party headed out that night and, after three more days travel made camp at the border of Nirmathis and Lastwall.
The following morning, the party awoke to find Bron missing.  He was quickly located at the bottom of a cliff. When Malikune, Tamarie, and Kotri joined him, he was waiting for them at the mouth of a cave.  He said he was led there in a vision.  He felt he needed to enter the cave.  The four companions prepared themselves.  They knew not what they faced, but they were certain that they would face it together.

Notes and Observations

Okay, two weeks until next game!  I hope everyone is enjoying it as much as I am.  I want to give props to Harmony for stepping out of her shell and really digging into Tamarie.  The sessions that we played together were a lot of fun.  Keep it up!
