Game 02 02-05-10

Game Summary                                      Game 02                                            02/05/10
Having finally made it to Tamran, the party wasted no time making contact with Forest Marshal Gavirk.  They relayed the story of their escape and the large army that was getting preparing for war at Fort Ramgate.  Gavirk was obviously concerned, but did not rush to judgment.  He requested that the party stay at the Bottomless Flagon for a few days while his own scouts were sent to verify the party’s information.  The group reluctantly agreed to wait.
With some unexpected time on their hands, the party agreed to help young Malikune on his quest to find his parents. They canvassed several locations as they were led from one person to another.  In fact, Tamarie accidentally made contact with her own mentor, a seemingly jovial gentleman named (currently) Jonnis.  He joined with the group as they were able to finally find an antiquities dealer that was rumored to hold the information that they required.  His name was Aernan and, after a short misunderstanding regarding handling of merchandise, he was more than happy to relate his tale.  He told a story of how a troop named the Sparrowhawks had saved him years earlier.  He didn’t know what had happened to them, but he swore to thank them if he ever found them again.  Aernan gave Malikune a mystical shield in gratitude and wished him luck in his quest.  He told the party to look for more information in the city of Fairfield.  Malikune left him 100 gold pieces for his trouble.
Satisfied for the time being, the party headed for the Bottomless Flagon.  While there, Jonnis ordered up drinks for everyone and explained the complications that Tamarie’s presence added to their activities in Tamran.  Her “kill on sight” status was explained, rather convincingly, as a misunderstanding.  In any case, Jonnis explained to Tamarie that if she wanted revenge for the death of her friends, that she would have to have considerable power when she returned.  He recommended building better, quicker, and more efficient smuggling routes.  That would give her power over much of the smuggling trade in the city of Tamran.  With that, he paid for everyone’s drinks and made his exit.
The following morning, the party awoke to an empty inn.  The innkeeper explained that most everyone in the area was attending services for Iomedae. The party, curious, agreed to attend services with the innkeeper.
The services were interesting, but something was off.  Both Bron and Malikune sensed it, but they couldn’t pinpoint it.  The group decided to stay until after the services were over.  Afterwards, they approached the young and charismatic priest (Taeboth, by name) and began to delve into his teachings.  He was nervous at first, but his nervousness soon turned to outright fear and eventually to anger.  He ordered the party to leave “his” temple. Korti, upset by these words, moved in with axe drawn.  In a panic, Taeboth threw a vial onto the floor and made his escape (at the cost of his robes).  A bearded devil arose from the smoke and attacked.
After killing the devil, the party searched the temple for more information about Taeboth and found that he was attempting to corrupt the local populace and breed heresy in the local churches.  They found notes on how to go about this task as well as a wand of Blur.  The party regrouped at the Bottomless Flagon and decided to avoid passing this information to the authorities.  More evidence, it was decided, would be necessary.  After that, they called it a day and spent the rest of the day relaxing.
The next morning, they were awoken by city guards urgently requesting their presence with Gavirk.  When the PCs arrived, Gavirk began to explain what his scouts found, but it was too late.  Outside, a flying fortress descended on Tamran and the attack began.  The most disturbing event was Tamran being covered by a shadow.  From the looks of it, once you were covered by the shadow, anyone that left it quickly began to waste away.  Gavirk begged the group to take his daughter Kelsey to the capitol of Lastwall to beg for assistance.  The party agreed.  They made their way to the northern docks before the shadow fell on them, but only with seconds to spare.  As they crossed the river to the north side, they looked back on the city, now covered in a shadowy dome.  The result was clear.  Molthune had finally found a way to prevent the Tamranian troops from fleeing the city.   Kelsey wept for the city and the party began making plans to journey north, across the expanse of Nirmathas.
