Game 13 08-13-10

Game Summary     Game 13     08/13/10
The township of Fairfield was a fairly busy place.  Too small to be city and too large to be a town, this hamlet held the hopes of Malikune and the rest of the group (save possibly Marius).  The party began their search for information in the local inn.
The barkeep was a stout bearded man with a gruff demeanor.  He didn’t take to kindly to the group when they entered.  He obviously had an eye for spotting trouble.  When Malikune questioned directly about the military insignia he carried, the curmudgeon didn’t trouble himself to hide his contempt.  Malikune was taken aback and didn’t quite know how to respond to the gruff innkeeper.  After being coached by the rest of the group, Malikune managed to insult the man by offering gold.  Despite all this, the innkeeper seemed to recognize the young druid.  Finally, he softened a bit and explained that his name was Braxis and that he did, indeed, know the symbol.  In fact, he knew a man whom Malikune resembled greatly.  He told Malikune about this man and the passionate love he had for a beautiful woman.  He spoke of how this man, Callebros by name, had given up even life in the militia to find this woman.  They had a child, but had to leave him behind for some reason.  Callebros had given Braxis the innkeeper a small wooden box without hinge or lid and asked him to keep it until “someone that greatly resembled him, but better” came along searching for him.  Braxis had decided that Malikune fit the picture.
He gave the your druid the box and left the group, giving them time to take in what they had learned.  After some deliberation, Malikune announced that he could open the box, but they would have to wait until the next day when he could pray for his spells.
That gave the group some time to kill.  Kotri and Tamarie went off to sell some items that had been collected.  Bron went with Kelsey to try and convince the leaders of the town to send some of the militia to General Rhinys.  Malikune and Marius went to test their luck with the local gambling establishment.
Marius led the innocent Malikune into a fixed game of poker.  Teaching the young man to accidentally cheat, and intentionally cheating himself, the two adventurer’s passed the evening by cleaning out the local rich gamblers, amateur and professional alike.  Their pot: 1800 gold pieces.
After shopping, Kotri met up with Bron to train while Tamarie continued to “shop.”  Only this time, she was shopping for other people’s possessions.  She was able to make it through two houses before she determined the risk was too great.  A few close calls and not knowing the ins and outs of the town brought enough sobriety that she remained conservative, escaping with a still hefty 900 gold in gold and treasure.
The party members met up at the inn late in the evening and were conversing with themselves.  They were alone in the room save for the barmaid who was bustling about the place making ready for the next day.  The doors opened and two strangers stepped in.  Both were cloaked.  The taller of them was broad-shouldered and moved with feline grace.  The shorter of them was clearly a Halfling.  They whispered to each other.  Only the sharp ears of the druid heard their speech clearly.
“Is this them?” said the short one.
                “Yes,” replied the larger.
                “Is it time now?”
                “Not yet.”
And silently, they turned and walked out.  Malikune dropped what he was doing and rushed outside.  Seeing no one, he glanced around.  There, scampering up the side of the wall, was the Halfling.  Malikune tried to stop him, but the battle was on.  The party seemed fine until a monster seemingly under the control of the Halfling dropped from the dark skies and into the middle of the party.  The party stood their ground as the battle with these unknown assailants continued to rage.
