Game 12 08-06-10

Game Summary     Game 12     08/06/10
Fairfield was a few days travel, so the party got started early on Sunday morning.  It had been almost a month since Tamran had been sacked by the invading Molthune army.  Much had happened, and the journey was far from over.
After two and a half days, our heroes happened upon a man sitting beside the side of the road.  He was an older gentleman with a long brown duster and a wide-brimmed hat.  He wore many different trinkets but the most noticeable was the large griffon talon he wore on a leather strip hanging around his neck.  He reclined easily against a tree, and he seemed to be humming to himself.  He hailed the group as they drew near.
He introduced himself as Jurga and without hesitation, he invited the party to stop and rest and have lunch with him.  They agreed.  Though the group was guarded at first, Jurga was carefree and open.  He explained how he carried each trinket as a memorial for his fallen comrades-in-arms throughout the years.  He related the story of the griffon talon to the group as they ate.  Flamboyant and energetic, the adventurers warmed to the old bard.  Like him or not, he kept the party entertained.  The time passed quickly and soon it was time to continue on.  Before the group left him, Jurga asked each of them what their passions were and what they loved.   After hearing their answers, he admitted that he was quite fond of their little adventuring party and challenged them to a game of riddles.
Our heroes accepted cordially and Jurga proceeded to ask a series of riddles.  Some were challenging, others were not so.  However, not to be out-done, Jurga shared with them his most difficult riddle.  He was overjoyed when the party couldn’t answer it, but admitted happily that they had bested all but the most difficult of his riddles.  He then pulled a magic shield out of his bag and offered it to them as a token of friendship and good fun.  He wished them luck and then parted company with the group.
The party continued on until they were about a day away from Fairfield.  The following morning, the group awakened to find Bron staring intently into the forest.  He felled compelled to travel into the woods.  He indicated to the party to go ahead, but they refused to leave him.  Marius decided to stay with Kelsey and Elric, while Tamarie, Malikune, and Kotri left with Bron to investigate this strange calling.
They made their way through the woods until they came upon a fast moving river.  In the center of the river, sitting squarely at the bottom was a huge chunk of volcanic glass.  Bron knew that he needed to get to the glass.  While Kotri and Malikune discussed methods for achieving the goal, Bron stripped off his armor and weapons and jumped into the river.
The party scurried into action as they tried to assist him.  Bron sank to the bottom and used hand-holds in the river bottom to cross, relying in his strength and endurance to keep him moving forward.
With the help of his friends, Bron was able to move the rock and find a simple silver box underneath it.  Inside the box was a ring of swimming.  Having a sense of completion about his task, Bron and the others made their way back to shore and then to the rest of the group.  Without further delay, they headed into Fairfield.
